UTICA — A 21-point difference from the foul line was the story, as SUNY New Paltz lost its fourth straight men’s basketball contest, 80-73, at Utica/Rome on Friday night.
Even four players in double figures, and a 15-for-31 (48.4 percent) effort from the field in the second half, couldn’t overcome a 34-13 game advantage at the charity stripe.
New Paltz (3-9 overall, 2-7 SUNYAC) hit more field goals and three-point field goals than the Wildcats, and had more rebounds and assists, but also committed seven more fouls, to give Utica/Rome (5-6 overall, 2-5 SUNYAC) 28 more free throw attempts.
Keith Glenn had a game-high 30 points for Utica/Rome, while Robert Jones (21 points, six rebounds, two blocks) and Pat Stirk (16 points, eight rebounds, three assists) led New Paltz.
