Women’s Soccer Team Loses

NEW PALTZ — Despite playing without its starting goalkeeper, the SUNY New Paltz women’s soccer team trailed just 1-0 for much of the first half, and would have made it to halftime behind only 2-0, had it not been for Laura Barber’s goal with six seconds remaining.

In the end, the (1-12 overall, 0-8 SUNYAC) Hawks remained winless in SUNYAC play, with a 5-1 loss to SUNY Oswego (7-6 overall, 4-3 SUNYAC) on Saturday afternoon.

Kim Baldwin, the Hawks’ usual goalkeeper, was tending to a family emergency on Saturday, and was therefore unavailable to play. Also, two other regular New Paltz starters missed the contest.

Freshman Michele Branca broke up the Laker shutout for New Paltz with her team-leading fourth goal of the season with seven seconds remaining in regulation.

New Paltz is at Utica/Rome on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.
