Women’s Soccer Team Drops Opener

CANTON — SUNY New Paltz allowed five goals in the first 50 minutes before holding nationally ranked St. Lawrence University scoreless over the final 40 minutes, en route to a 5-0 season-opening women’s soccer loss on Saturday.

St. Lawrence (4-0), ranked fifth in the New York/Northeast Region and a Honorable Mention selection on this week’s National Soccer Coaches Association of America national poll, got two first-half goals from junior midfielder Meredith Eisenhut to help it remain unbeaten. Sophomore Sarah Cook scored the game-winner just 3:35 into the match.

The Saints outshot New Paltz, 18-3, in the contest and held an 8-0 advantage on corner kicks.

Hawk sophomore goalkeepers Diane Figueroa (six saves) and Kim Baldwin (10 saves) combined for 16 saves in a half of work each.
