NEW PALTZ — Two thesis exhibitions by graduating students in the Department of Art appear in the galleries of the Samuel Dorsky Museum of Art at SUNY New Paltz in December. Thesis exhibitions are presented bi-annually and represent the culmination of a focused study within a particular medium. Artists will graduate with either a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) or a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) degree in one of the following areas: Ceramics, Graphic Design, Metals, Photography, Printmaking, Painting, or Sculpture.
On Friday, December 7, students, faculty and friends gather for an opening reception to celebrate Exhibition I, which is on view through December 12. The exhibition features works by BFA students.
Exhibition II features work by both BFA and MFA students, on view at the museum from Saturday, December 15 through Wednesday, December 19. An opening reception is scheduled for Friday, December 14 from 6:00 – 8:00 PM. The receptions and exhibitions are free and open to the public.
“The work represents significant research, exploration of ideas, and mastery of material, coalescing in artistic expression,” says Dr. Kristin Rauch, chair of the Art Department. “The Art Department places great value in these exhibitions. They are the manifestation of time, energy, and thought that goes into a university program in art.”
BFA Exhibition I features student artists Aziza Browne, Sarah Chrystie, Carrie Hedges, Daniel James La Bate, Seth Martel, Jeffrey Stults, Hideki Takahashi, Sho Yoshida, and Yuliya Zarubina.
BFA/MFA Exhibition II includes work by BFA students Eileen Brand, Kim Bumgardner, Elena Fox, Fumi G. Katayama, Toni Wasik, and Rikki Will. MFA students Jill Parisi and Susan Brooks Stack are also included.
