Men’s Basketball Drops Two at Drew Tournament

MADISON, NJ — The New Paltz men’s basketball team kicked off the 2001- 2002 season this past weekend participating in the Drew University Rose City Classic. The Hawks lost in the opening round to Drew 86-55 and in the consolation match to Centenary College 85-77.

On Friday against Drew, Danny Goldberg (New Rochelle, NY) and Steve Ott (New Paltz, NY) were the lone Hawks in double figures finishing with 12 and 11 points respectively. Ott also finished with a game-high 14 rebounds.

Against Centenary, the Hawks erased a large first half deficit but lost in the end by 8 points. Ben Davey (Andover, NJ) led all scorers with 26 points for New Paltz. Pat Stirk (Milford, CT) had 15 points and 14 rebounds and Tim Mahon (Poughkeepsie, NY) had 13.

Men’s basketball returns to the court Tuesday when they travel to John Jay College.
