Update for faculty on new online teaching certification procedures

The following information was sent to all faculty and staff on Dec. 13.

Dear Faculty:

We are pleased to announce our new online teaching certification procedures scheduled to launch Jan. 3, 2023. We’ve designed the new procedures so that faculty can access them on demand and work at their own pace. Access to the certification process will no longer require approval, and faculty will have on-going access to updated training content. Use this link to view a more detailed presentation about the new online training & certification procedures.

The new certification approach has three stages:

1. Foundational Certification is the basic backpack of tools faculty need to successfully teach in online modalities and use the D2L Brightspace digital learning environment.  Foundational Certification includes Core DLE, Core Pedagogy, and Core Accessibility.

2. Full Certification recognizes that a faculty member has mastered the Core Modalities and has developed Advanced Skills for remote teaching and learning.

3. Recertification confirms on-going mastery of evolving best practices in online teaching and learning.

Use this link for more information and FAQs about the differences between the three certification stages.

Starting Jan. 3, the Foundational Training will be accessible to all faculty via D2L Brightspace.

*NOTE: If you have received notification of your completion of Core DLE and/or Core Pedagogy through the training in LinkedIn Learning, you do NOT need to repeat that training in D2L Brightspace. Faculty who complete Core DLE and Core Pedagogy prior to Jan. 3 may go straight to Core Accessibility.

Here are important timelines:

STAGES TERM TIMELINE FOR ROLL-OUT
Foundational Certification 2 years Jan. 3, 2023
Full Certification 4 years Mid-spring 2023
Recertification Every 4 years Summer-Fall 2023

For more details about the training, please see the attached documents.  If you have any questions, you can reach out to Shala Mills, Associate Provost & Dean of Continuing & Online Education at millss@newpaltz.edu or to Kate Bohan, Director of the Office of Instructional Technology, at bohank@newpaltz.edu.
