MORRISVILLE, NY — Junior Ashley Smith (Selden, NY/Newfield) tallied a hat-trick to lead SUNY New Paltz, as the Hawks snapped a four game loosing streak with a 3-0 decision against the Morrisville Mustangs.
After 30 minutes of scoreless play, Smith found the back of the cage at 32:30 with the assist being credited to Kristen Donnelly (Nichols, NY/Nichols) as the Hawks took a 1-0 lead. Twelve minutes later Jacqueline Sisco (Wappingers Falls, NY/John Jay) found Smith in front of the net to extend the lead to 2-0.
Smith was back at it again, five minutes later off a through ball from Kristen Bergmann (Massapequa, NY/Massapequa) to finish off the scoring.
Nicole Kovac (Manlius, NY/Fayetteville-Manlius) stopped two shots for her first shutout of the season as the Hawks advance to 1-4 on the year. New Paltz will be back in action on Wednesday, September 20 as they travel to Oneonta to take on the Red Dragons in a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) match-up.
