New Paltz Ties Brockport 2-2 in Men’s Soccer

NEW PALTZ, NY — Sophomore Daniel Falco (Huntington, NY/Elwood John H. Glenn) scored both goals for the Hawks in the 2-2 tie with Brockport in a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) game played at Dietz Stadium in Kingston, NY.
Falco scored the only goal in the first half of play to give the Hawks a 1-0 lead. Brockport goalkeeper, Chris Beford, came out to blast a ball away when the ball was deflected off of Falco which rebounded into the net from 20 yards out.
Brockport wasted little time in the second half as Jon Lefort scored at the 49:27 mark into the lower left corner of the net, off an assist from Joe Asmussen.
Five minutes later Falco scored his second of the game to give New Paltz another lead. Daniel Cocciardi (Stormville, NY/John Jay) sent the ball in from the left side to Falco who two touched the ball, sending into the lower right corner of the net.
Joe Tychostup picked up a loose ball in the box and made a move around a defender before blasting a shot past Jeffrey Dudley (Poughkeepsie, NY/Spackenkill) into the lower left corner of the net with less than two minutes remaining to tie the game at two and force overtime.
Neither team scored in the overtime periods as Brockport outshot New Paltz in the extra sessions 7-3. Dudley finished with 10 saves in net for the Hawks as Beford posted three for Brockport.
In accordance with SUNYAC rules the two teams used a five-player shootout to help determine a tie-breaker at the end of the season if the two teams are tied for a playoff spot. Brockport won the shootout 4-2.
New Paltz will return to action next weekend when they travel to Oswego and Cortland.
