Virtual panel with Title IX professionals, April 29 at noon

In honor of Sexual Assault Awareness Month, the Title IX Working Group is hosting a virtual panel featuring Title IX professionals providing information about sexual assault resources, dispelling common myths and answering your questions.

The Title IX virtual panel will take place on Wednesday, April 29, at 12 p.m. All SUNY New Paltz students, faculty, staff and alumni are welcome to join the conversation.

The panel will be moderated by Tara Manning ’20 (History; Women’s, Gender & Sexuality Studies), president of Take Back the Night, and will feature the following panelists:

Title IX consists of 37 powerful words:

“No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving federal financial assistance.”

Title IX protects all members of our campus community from gender discrimination, sexual harassment, sexual assault, sexual violence, interpersonal violence and stalking.

The Title IX Working Group serves as an advisory body helping to identify, develop, deliver and review and assess ongoing community education around issues of healthy relationships, sexual violence, sexual harassment and sexual discrimination. Learn more about their mission and membership via this link.

All members of the SUNY New Paltz community have the right to be free from any form of interpersonal violence and discrimination, and all are encouraged to report, confidentially discuss, or raise questions and concerns regarding any instance of such violence or discrimination.

This policy remains in place as our community adapts to teaching, learning and working remotely. Students, faculty and staff can report Title IX incidents electronically by emailing Title IX Coordinator Emma Morcone at morconee@newpaltz.edu. Our office can still provide support services, reporting options and resources virtually via e-mail, phone call or video conference.

In the event of an emergency, please call 911 or University Police at 845-257-2222.
