Media Day focuses on communication careers

NEW PALTZ — The Department of Communication and Media at the State University of New York at New Paltz will host the third annual Media Day on March 26 in The Terrace Restaurant on the New Paltz campus. At this year’s event, visiting communication and media professionals will share knowledge and their experiences through this year’s theme, “Beyond the Classroom: Communication Careers.”

The panel session for the day begins at 9 a.m. and includes the following communication and media professionals:

Ellen Shaplowsky, executive vice president, Ruder Finn Public Relations

David Rossiter, 2002 SUNY New Paltz alum and research analyst, Tribune Entertainment

Ed Carroll, 1985 SUNY New Paltz alum and executive vice president/general manager, Independent Film Channel

Michael Frank, editor, Mountain Bike Magazine

Eric Gullickson, 2000 SUNY New Paltz alum and media relations coordinator, SUNY New Paltz Public Affairs.

Michael Levine, executive editor, Times Herald-Record

Denise Kennedy-Shane, broadcast coordinator, Mediacom, and freelance associate producer, NBC News

Mensah Robinson, sales planner, Superstation WGN

Guests will be given the opportunity to ask questions to the panel and speak with them one-on-one throughout the day.

In addition, the students of the Communication and Media Department will introduce their research and creative work in oral and poster presentations from 1 to 3 p.m.

Media Day will begin at 9 a.m. in the Terrace Restaurant on the New Paltz campus, and will continue until 3 p.m. The event is free, but pre-registration is required. Call (845) 257-3456 if you would like to attend. Breakfast and lunch will be served.
