Second Half Explosion leads New Paltz Field Hockey Team to a 4-1 Win over Oswego
KINGSTON, NY — The SUNY New Paltz field hockey team scored three second half goals en route to their first State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) win of the season and set a single season record of four victories in the 4-1 win over Oswego State.
Senior midfielder Lisa Taub (Greenlawn, NY) put the Hawks on the scoreboard first with a goal at the 7:35 mark of the first half off an assist from senior defender Kelly Anderson (Kingston, NY). New Paltz would continue to put the pressure on the Lakers defense but wouldn’t score again for the remainder of the half.
Oswego State (4-10, 1-3) began the second half with an offensive surge that produced the game-tying goal just 2:23 into the half off the stick of senior forward Kayla Rathbun (Little Falls, NY). Less than four minutes later, New Paltz regained the lead at 2-1 on an unassisted goal by senior midfielder Allison Taub (Greenlawn, NY).
The Hawks (4-9, 1-3) never looked back as they would score two late insurance goals by Anderson and sophomore attacker Patricia Erikson (Massapequa Park, NY) to seal the victory.
Oswego State goalkeepers Kaitlin Daniels (Sag Harbor, NY) and Ashley Perkins (Oneida, NY) combined to make six saves. New Paltz netminder Lisa Wong (Colts Neck, NJ) needed to make just one save to secure her first collegiate win.
