NEW PALTZ — State University of New York at New Paltz professors, Dr. Tulin Sener and Dr. Spencer Salend, have both been selected as recipients of the Chancellor’s Research Recognition Award. They will be honored at a dinner with the chancellor on Oct. 20, at the State University Plaza in Albany.
This is the third annual dinner held to honor SUNY faculty research and scholarships in the arts, humanities and social sciences. The President of each SUNY campus nominates faculty they believe worthy of this honor.
Sener was chosen for her findings dealing with global equity markets. She is a professor of finance in the School of Business and holds an M.A. and Ph.D. from Claremont Graduate University. Sener served as the first and only woman president of a bank in Turkey.
She came to New Paltz in 1983, serving as a visiting associate professor of finance. Through the years, she has been the recipient of many international grants, such as the Fulbright USA Government Grant, several OECD grants, European Community and AID grants and French and Turkish government grants.
Salend was chosen for his work with the migrant and special education programs. He is a professor of special education in the School of Education and holds a B.A., from the University of Buffalo, an M.S. from Lehman College and an Ed.D. from the University of Kentucky.
Salend is credited with obtaining more than $5 million in external funding for migrant education programs. He has published more than 100 works on educating students with disabilities in general education classrooms and addressing the education of students from culturally and linguistically different backgrounds, including migrant students.
Honorees and their guest will attend the cocktail reception and dinner. During the dinner, a biography of the person will be read and the chancellor will present him or her with a plaque.
