Hawks Edged By Potsdam In Women’s Lacrosse
KINGSTON — A hat trick by Katie Sharp fueled a second-half rally that fell just short, as New Paltz was edged by Potsdam, 11-8, in SUNYAC women’s lacrosse on Friday afternoon at Kingston’s Dietz Stadium.
Potsdam’s Kelly Morris had six goals and an assist for the (1-1 overall, 1-0 SUNYAC) Bears, who outshot New Paltz, 26-20, in the contest. The (0-2 overall, 0-1 SUNYAC) Hawks, though, held an 11-8 advantage on faceoffs and a 35-32 edge on groundballs.
Jennifer Freud and Wallkill product Erin Scherf had two goals apiece for the Hawks, while Lindsay Martin scored once, and goalkeeper Adrian Grasso made 10 saves. Potsdam netminder Melissa Doney needed four saves to even her season record.
The Hawks travel to Wells on Saturday for a 1 p.m. match.
