President Darrell P. Wheeler joins Vassar Brothers Medical Center Board of Directors

SUNY New Paltz President Darrell P. Wheeler has joined the Board of Directors at Vassar Brothers Medical Center, a Poughkeepsie, New York, based facility that has served the Hudson Valley for nearly 150 years.

President Wheeler’s appointment to this non-profit board adds a regional affiliation to his already extensive record of service in healthcare and related fields. Throughout his career as an educator, scholar and community partner, he has worked with public and private health service organizations, with a special focus on historically marginalized and oppressed groups.

In addition to his new role with Vassar Brothers Medical Center, Wheeler also serves on the U.S. Presidential Advisory Council on HIV/AIDS (PACHA); is a member of the SUNY Research Council; is on the Executive Management Committee of the HIV Prevention Trials Network; co-chairs the HIV Prevention Trial Networks Scholars Program; and is on the Board of Directors for the NASW Assurance Services Incorporated. He recently joined the Hudson Valley Economic Development Corporation (HVEDC).

Vassar Brothers Medical Center is part of Nuvance Health, a network of seven community hospital locations and many more outpatient facilities throughout the Hudson Valley and western Connecticut. Medical staff have expertise in cardiac services, cancer care, and women and children’s health services, among other concentrations.
