Best in Show: “Into the Woods” named best college musical in BroadwayWorld regionals

The SUNY New Paltz Mainstage Production of “Into the Woods” won the Best College/University Production of a Musical prize in the 2019 Central New York Awards presented by the theatre industry publication BroadwayWorld.

The College’s fall 2018 production of Sondheim’s legendary take on classic fairy tales was directed by Catherine Doherty, assistant professor of theatre arts, with musical direction from Katya Stanislavskaya, assistant professor of musical theatre. Like all Mainstage Productions, the show featured a cast and crew made up almost entirely of New Paltz students.

“Winning a BroadwayWorld Award for our production of ‘Into the Woods’ is a testament to our students’ commitment to a standard of excellence in Theatre Arts,” Doherty said. “Congratulations to all our student designers, technicians, actors, musicians, crew, dramaturgs and stage managers!”
