Hawks Fall to Stevens

NEW PALTZ, NY– The New Paltz women’s basketball team fell to the Ducks from Stevens Tuesday night, by a score of 56-46. Stevens improved to 9-5 overall and the Hawks fall to 9-5 overall.

The Ducks were led by Brittany Fuller. Fuller had a double-double, scoring a game-high 28 points and added 10 rebounds. Teammate Dawn Garcia chipped in with 16 points, six rebounds, and three assists.

Senior guards Nicole Sarcone and Maggie Farrell led the Hawks with nine points each. Sarcone had a game-high six assists and Farrell brought down a team-high six rebounds.

Senior guard Kristen Caban opened up the game with a three-pointer, but the Ducks responded with a 9-1 run over a five and a half minute span to take a 9-4 lead. The Ducks led 28-20 after the first half. They ended up shooting 41% from the field and 35% from behind the arc.

The Ducks came out strong in the second half with Fuller and Garcia each hitting a three, giving them a 14 point advantage over New Paltz. However, the Hawks battled back after a jumper by freshman forward Alexandra McCullough and then a clutch three-pointer by Sarcone making it a 42-40 contest. The Ducks shooting would be too much for the Hawks, making it a final score of 56-46.

New Paltz returns to the court Friday January 22nd when they travel to Oneonta for conference play.
