Women’s Tennis Makes History

NEW PALTZ, NY- The SUNY New Paltz women’s tennis team made history today as they beat New York University 5-4 on senior day.  The Hawks recognized Lyndsey Lovinger and Kerri Serkes for their four years of dedication and commitment to the New Paltz tennis program.

The Hawks won two of the three doubles matches.  The team of Stephanie Schara/Lindsey Garyn defeated Liz Stachtiaris/Lisa Mijovic 8-3 in the first doubles.  In the third doubles, it was the seniors Lyndsey Lovinger/Kerri Serkes who helped give the Hawks the early 2-1 lead after the doubles by defeating Brittany Ciavarella/Becky Kumar.

Results:

1st doubles: Schara/Garyn (NP) def. Stachtiaris/Mijovic (NYU) 8-3

2nd doubles: Liz Feldman/Lena Krups (NYU) def. Wilson/DiPaulo (NP) 8-4

3rd doubles: Lovinger/Serkes (NP) def. Ciavarella/Kumar (NYU) 8-3

In the singles, Ingrid Maryansky improved to 12-0 on the season with a straight set victory over Tiffany Thong 6-1, 6-2.  Garyn and Alexandria Esposito won their singles matches for the Hawks.

1st singles: Stachtiaris (NYU) def. Schara (NP) 6-0, 6-0

2nd singles: Feldman (NYU) def. Montana Wilson (NP) 6-1, 7-5

3rd singles: Garyn (NP) def. Krups (NYU) 6-3, 1-6, 10-3

4th singles: Mijovic (NYU) def. Kayla DiPaulo (NP) 6-2, 2-6, 10-8

5th singles: Maryansky (NP) def. Thong (NYU) 6-1, 6-2

6th singles: Esposito (NP) def. Ciavarella (NYU) 6-1, 6-1

NYU falls to 0-1 on the season.

New Paltz improves to 8-1 on the season and 5-1 in the SUNYAC.  The Hawks finish up conference play on Monday against Oneonta at 3:30 p.m. on the campus of SUNY New Paltz.
