Former men’s basketball assistant coach Walter Rickard was named Director of Athletics and Head Men’s Basketball Coach at Columbia-Greene Community College. Walter had spent the last two seasons as the assistant men’s basketball coach and Assistant Facilities Director at New Paltz.
While at New Paltz he assisted the program with on campus recruiting, daily practice planning, film exchange, and team travel itineraries. Rickard produced the men’s basketball newsletter which was distributed to alumni and friends. He served as a building supervisor in the Athletic and Wellness Center as well as an event manager for home athletic contests.
“I had a great opportunity at SUNY New Paltz to learn from very experienced people in athletics. Coach Nelson was instrumental in my development as a coach and an individual. Also Erick Hart, Keith Kenney and Stuart Robinson gave me the opportunity to learn about the administration side of an athletic department. I am very grateful and eager to bring my experience to Columbia Greene” stated Rickard.
