Garafola Penalty Kick Defeats Bard; Viscardi Earns First Victory

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, NY- The SUNY New Paltz men’s soccer defeated Bard College Tuesday night scoring an early goal and late penalty kick to secure a 2-1 victory. 

The Hawks Jimmy Altadonna scored his team leading sixth goal just 1:26 into the game after Michael Santalesa’s shot was deflected by the Bard defender.  It was Santalesa’s team leading fifth assist.  The Hawks held a large margin of 17-3 shots in the first half.

Chet Barrow would net the equalizer in the 49th minute for Bard College.

In the 77th minute, Altadonna struck a shot in the box and was blocked by the arm of a Bard defender. The referee awarded the Hawks with a penalty kick.  Tommy Garafola scored his second goal of the season on the penalty kick.

Devon Connelly recorded the loss in net for Bard, saving eight shots.  Bard falls 4-5-1 overall on the season.

Thomas Viscardi earned his first collegiate victory, saving one shot on the night.  New Paltz improves to 5-5-1 overall and returns to the field Friday against Potsdam at 4 p.m. on Alumni Field.
