Brockport Defeats Hawks, 3-0

NEW PALTZ, NY- The SUNY New Paltz men’s soccer team fell to the visiting Golden Eagles from Brockport 3-0 on Alumni Field Friday evening. 

Brockport’s Steve Abgarian scored his eighth goal of the year seven minutes into the game when Brad Lefort sent a through ball to Abgarian to beat the goalie to the right corner.

In the 12th minute, David Gardner crossed the ball into the box looking for the head of Jimmy Altadonna, but the Golden Eagles keeper made the save before the ball was able to get through.

The Hawks had another chance in the 15th minute to tie the contest when Tommy Garafola’s shot was blocked by the keeper and covered up before Harrison Lane had the chance for the rebound.

With 23 minutes remaining in the half, Tommy Willoughby played a great ball to Altadonna for the header, but the Golden Eagles keeper was there for another save.  The Hawks would outshoot Brockport 4-1 in the half.

Steve Childs in the 66th minute had a chance to extend the Golden Eagles lead, but the Hawks keeper made a one handed diving save for a corner.  Off the corner, Steve Abgarian shot was initial stopped but Mar Orlando was there for the rebound and his first goal of the season.

The Hawks had two chances cut the lead in half in the 76th minute when Gardner’s shot was saved by the diving keeper and Altadonna’s rebound attempt was saved again by the keeper.

Gardner had another chance in the 85th minute when a failed clear in the box was played right to him and he one-timed the shot, but was denied by the keeper.

Brad Lefort recorded his third goal of the game with six seconds when Doug DiSanti sent a through ball to Lefort who was one-on-one with the keeper.

Joe Marino recorded the win net, saving nine shots on the evening.  Brockport improves to 4-3-2 overall and 2-1-0 in the SUNYAC.

Peter Carmel recorded the loss in net, saving two shots.  New Paltz falls to 4-4-1 overall and 0-3-0 in the SUNYAC.  The Hawks return to the field tomorrow against Geneseo at 1 p.m. on Alumni Field.
