Women’s Volleyball Splits on First Day at Emory Tournament

ATLANTA, GA- The SUNY New Paltz women’s volleyball team defeated the University of Wisconsin-Platteville, 3-1 and fell to Division II King College (TN), 3-1 in the second match in the first day at the Emory Tournament.

In the UW-Platteville match, the Hawks won 25-22, 21-25, 25-22, 25-21.  Sophomore Melinda DiGiovanna (West Hempstead) led the team with 11 kills and senior Brittany Coyle (Middletown/Minisink Valley) chipped in with nine kills and five blocks for the Hawks.  Senior Stephanie Bova (Central Square/Paul V. Moore) handed out 39 assists and added five blocks and senior Priska Wilson (Warwick) led the team with 19 digs.

In the second game, the Hawks fell to Division II King College (TN) by the scores of 26-24, 16-25, 23-25, 20-25.  Senior Alison Kiernan (New Hyde Park/Herricks) led the team with 12 kills and junior Stephanie Skrobach (Webster/Webster Schroeder) added eight kills. Bova handed out 39 assists and freshman Loren Crabbe (Ballston Lake/Burnt Hills) led the team with 11 digs. 

The Hawks start the season at 1-1 and return to the court tomorrow at 10:30 a.m. against Maryville (MO) and #1 nationally ranked Emory at 3:30 p.m.
