Second Half Surge Lifts Drew Field Hockey Past Hawks

MADISON, NJ- The SUNY New Paltz field hockey team fell to the Rangers of Drew University Wednesday evening, 4-2.

Drew found the back of the cage at 25:32 off a corner when Elizabeth Law found Nicole DiBattista inside the circle for the 1-0 lead.  Minutes later, the Rangers once again had a chance to push their lead to two goals, but Kristen Donnelly (Nichols/Owego Free Academy) made a defensive save to maintain the one goal deficit. 

The Hawks would tie the score at one, when Maryana Organidis (Belford, NJ/Henry Hudson Regional) shot was stopped by the Rangers goalkeeper, but Kristen Bergmann (Massapequa) gathered the rebound for the goal at 30:05.

Elizabeth Law would give the Rangers the lead at 42:45 when she beat her defender from the right side of the cage for the goal.  Drew would add another goal seven minutes later when Meghan Howlett beat her defender and scoring from five yards out for the 3-1 advantage.

The Rangers would put the game out of reach with five minutes to go when DiBattista added her second goal of the night off a corner.  Her shot came from the top of the circle and managed to get through the crowd of defenders to find the back of the cage.

The Hawks would add their second goal at 67:12 when Sarah Schloss (Brant Lake/North Warren) found the back of the cage of an Organidis shot.

Stef Rutkowski recorded the win in net allowing one goal and saving two shots in 34:01 minutes.  Lauren Fasano played 35:59 minutes and allowed one goal and saved two shots.  Drew improves to 1-0 on the season.

Elizabeth Tong (Woodstock/Onteora) recorded the loss in net, allowing four goals and saving four shots.  New Paltz falls to 0-1 overall and return to the field Saturday, September 5th for their home opener against Manhattanville at 1 p.m. on the Turf Field.
