Women’s Soccer Defeats King’s College, 2-0

ROCHESTER, NY- The SUNY New Paltz women’s soccer team opened the University of Rochester Tournament with a 2-0 victory over King’s College (PA), Saturday afternoon at Edwin Fauver Stadium.  Freshman Stephanie Vega (Oceanside/Baldwin) earned her first collegiate victory in net.

The Hawks opened the scoring in the 32nd minute when freshman Samantha Abravanel (Islip) scored her first career goal on a breakaway that beat the goalkeeper left post. 

Sophomore Katie Oliver (Bellport) added her first goal of the season in the 82nd minute. 

The Hawks outshot King’s 24-6 and held a 12-2 advantage in corner kicks.

Vega recorded the victory in net saving four shots for her first career shut out.  The Hawk improve to 1-1 overall.  New Paltz plays the University of Rochester tomorrow at 3:30 p.m. for the championship.
