College designer receives award for exhibition catalog

The Design and Printing Services Office at the State University of New York at New Paltz has received an Award of Excellence from the University and College Designers Association (UCDA) for an exhibition catalog designed for the college’s Samuel Dorsky Museum of Art.

Jeff Lesperance, senior designer in Design and Printing Services, created the catalog that accompanied the “Taking a Different Tack: Maggie Sherwood and the Floating Foundation of Photography” exhibition at The Dorsky Museum from January 24 to April 8, 2009.

The catalog was one of 257 winners selected out of 1,300 entries from the United States, Canada and other countries. Upon publication, the catalog will be sold and promoted through a new partnership between the college and SUNY Press, an international publisher of distinguished research and notable works of general interest.

The winners of this year’s competition will be on display at the 39th Annual UCDA Design Conference in Seattle from Oct. 3-6. The University and College Designers Association was founded in 1970 as the nation’s first and only association for professionals involved in the creation of visual communications for educational institutions.
