#13 Skidmore too much for Hawks

NEW PALTZ- The SUNY New Paltz field hockey team fell to the nationally ranked #13 Thoroughbreds of Skidmore, by a score of 7-2, on Saturday afternoon on the Turf Field. 

At 33:10, in the first half Kristen Bergmann (Massapequa) took a shot, but was saved by the Skidmore goalkeeper.  Skidmore struck first with a goal by Brittany O’ Brien which was assisted by Annie Rosencrans in the ninth minute. 

Bergmann answered back for New Paltz with a goal at 17:43 from Alyssa Finck (Hudson/Ichabod Crane) to tie the game up at 1-1.  For the duration of the first half Skidmore’s offense provided three more goals.  Off a corner, Carolyne McManama found Katie Potter for the goal. 

At 34:20, with 40 seconds left in the half, Brittany O’Brien found the back of the cage off a fast break.  With 18 seconds left in the half, Skidmore’s Annie Rosencrans scored, making it a 4-1 advantage. 

In the 41st and 63rd minute, Annie Rosencrans and Ceilidh MacNeill each scored for Skidmore.  At 52:18, Brittany O’Brien scored her third goal of the game. 

At 63:29, Sarah Schloss (Brant Lake/North Warren) assisted Bergmann for her second goal of the game, providing a final score of 7-2.

Skidmore’s goalkeeper Liz Catinella recorded the win in net for the Thoroughbreds.  She allowed two goals on eight shots, and saved five. 

Goalkeeper Elizabeth Tong (Woodstock/Onteora Central) recorded the loss in net for New Paltz.  Tong allowed seven goals on 13 shots, saving six. 

The Hawks fall to 2-2 overall and return to the field Friday, September 18th when they kick off conference play against Brockport.  Game time is set for 4:30 pm.
