Women’s Soccer Stays Unbeaten in Four Straight

WELLESLEY, MA- The SUNY New Paltz women’s soccer team has won two straight games and is unbeaten since their season opening loss against Ramapo.  The Hawks defeated Salem State College, 2-0 in the Wellesley Tournament to move onto the championship game against Wellesley College.

The teams played to a scoreless first half, as the Hawks held a slight advantage in shots, 9-8. 

Samantha Abravanel (Islip) gave the Hawks the lead just five minutes into the second half when Emily Buckner (Pine Bush) found Abravanel for the goal in the 50th minute.  Abravanel would score her second of the game and third of the year in the 85th minute to secure the win for the Hawks.

Stephanie Vega (Oceanside/Baldwin) earned her third shutout of the year, making 11 saves in the game.  The Hawks improve to 3-1-1 overall and return to the field against Wellesley College in the championship game at 2:30 p.m.
