Journalism program launches online news magazine at April 20 event

NEW PALTZ – The journalism program at the State University of New York at New Paltz will celebrate the launch of its online news magazine, The Little Rebellion, at a party at 7 p.m. on Monday, April 20, during the college’s Media Day event.

The Little Rebellion officially goes live on April 20 and can be viewed at www2.newpaltz.edu/little-rebellion. It will feature campus and local news, features, arts and entertainment, and literary journalism. Fresh articles will be posted each week.

The magazine’s content is written, edited, designed and produced by students in the college’s Advanced Editing class, with contributions by students throughout the journalism program.

The first issue highlights stories about the SUNY tuition increases, campus housing shortage, job prospects for graduating seniors and how recent graduates have fared in the job market, Battle of the Bands, and the recent cigarette tax.

“It is now an online world,” said Robert Miraldi, a journalism professor who coordinates the journalism program and serves as publisher of The Little Rebellion. “Students need to now report and reach out on the Internet.”

The Little Rebellion gets its name from Thomas Jefferson, who said, “A little rebellion now and then is a good thing.”
