Men’s volleyball on the national stage

NEW PALTZ, NY-  The SUNY New Paltz men’s volleyball team has broke into the top 15 teams in the national according to the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA).  The new poll that was release February 17th, as New Paltz ranked 14th. 

The Hawks broke into the top 15 with two big wins this past weekend at the Nazareth Tournament.  They started the first day with two losses, but those came against #2 UC Santa Cruz and #8 Nazareth.  The Hawks played well in both games, but the experience of the teams got to the Hawks in the end.

On Saturday, the Hawks upset #4 Stevens in five games.  It was the first time the Hawks beat Stevens since 2002 and the first time in 12 games.  Later on in the day, the Hawks defeated #14 Medaille in three games.  The Hawks finished the tournament with a 2-2 record and left with confidence for the up-coming NECVA Conference games, starting with Stevens, February 18th on Stevens campus at 7 p.m.
