Hawks coast to conference win over Morrisville, 82-29

MORRISVILLE, NY- The SUNY New Paltz women’s basketball team cruised to the conference win over Morrisville State College, 82-29, at the John B. Student Activities Center Tuesday night.

In the first half, the Hawks took the early advantage forcing 24 turnovers leading to a 42-8 half-time lead. The Hawks held Morrisville without a field goal for the first 12:43 of the game and holding them to 1-of-17 shooting from the field.

Kaitlin Clifford (Staten Island, NY/Curtis) paced the Hawks with 11 points.
Maggie Farrell (Hillsdale, NY/Immaculate), Zoe Cohen (Brooklyn, NY/The Berkeley Carroll School) and Artie Williams (Newburgh, NY/Newburgh Free Academy) chipped in with six points. Nicole Sarcone (Staten Island, NY/Notre Dame Academy) dished out five assists for the Hawks.

The Hawks shot 47 percent from the field and 44 percent from behind the arc.

In the second half, the Mustangs had no answer for the Hawks hot shooting and pressure defense. The Hawks shot 46 percent from the field on way to the 82-29 win. Clifford led the way with 17 points on 6-of-6 shooting and three steals. Cohen chipped in with 12 points and three steals. Caitlin Irwin (Brooklyn, NY/Bishop Kearney) added ten points and five rebounds for the Hawks.

The Hawks held Morrisville to 21 percent from the field for the game. The Mustangs were led by Courtney Terzi with eight points and Sybil Stanton chipped in with seven points.

The Hawks improve to 4-2 overall and 1-0 in SUNYAC competition and return to the court Friday December 5 at 6 p.m. against Fredonia in the Hawk Center.

Morrisville falls to 1-3 overall and 0-1 in SUNYAC competition.
