Hawks Fall to #22 NYU; Five Players in Double Digits

The women’s basketball team hosted #22-ranked NYU Monday night and fell to the Violets 97-89. The game was tied at 12-12 before NYU went on a 17-0 run over a 5:11 minute span for a 29-12 lead at 11:10. New Paltz cut the lead to 11 at 7:11 but could not come any closer en route to the 50-35 intermission.
The Hawks opened the second half with a 14-3 run for a four point game at 53-49 with 15:30 remaining as Caitlin Irwin hit two free throws. NYU responed with another large run as they out scored New Paltz 14-0 in the next 3:43. The Violets still led by 18 at 88-70 with 4:15 left on the clock. New Paltz out scored NYU 19-4 in the next 3:56 to come to with in five at 94-89 but could not come any closer before the 97-89 final.
Sophomore Artie Williams led the Hawks with 27 points and nine rebounds. Williams went 10-18 from the floor, including 5-5 from the arc. Carly Minehan finished with 14 points and 8 boards and Maggie Farrell added 12 points and eight rebounds. Irwin finished with a career high 10 points and Nicole Sarcone netted 10 points and dished out a career high 11 assists.
New Paltz falls to 3-2 on the season and will begin conference play on Tuesday December 2nd when they travel to Morrisville at 6p.m.
