Women’s Soccer Can’t Recover From Three First Half Goals by Brockport

SUNY Brockport scored three first half goals en route to shutting out the New Paltz Hawks 3-0 this afternoon. The Hawks fall to 4-6-1 overall and 1-3-1 in conference play, while Brockport advanced to 5-4-1 and 4-1-0.

The Golden Eagles tallied their first goal at 7:54 when Rachel Murphy netted a direct kick from 25 yards out. Sarah Boccard (Washingtonville) got a hand on the ball but it wasn’t enough as it soared into the right side of the goal. One and half minutes later New Paltz was awarded a direct kick from the left side of the box but was unable to capitalize. At 22:13 Brockport added to their lead when Nicole Gibaud crossed the ball from the left side of the field to find Michelle Gibaud who tapped it in at the back door. Eleven minutes later the Golden Eagles completed the scoring when Arielle Schneider sent a long ball down the field and Kaitlyn Breed used her speed for a one on one breakaway and slipped the ball past Boccard into the low right corner.

In the second half, New Paltz earned a corner kick at 56:43 and registered three shots on the play. Stephanie Wallman (Smithtown) recorded the first shot that was blocked by a defender before Jennifer Anselmi (North Rockland) attempted a shot which was also blocked followed by Janis Jackson’s (Schenectady/Loudonville Christian) shot that was saved by Liz Durfee.

Brockport had an opportunity in the second half to extend their lead when Schneider blasted a shot from 20 yards out that Boccard jumped and tipped over the top of the net.

New Paltz out shot Brockport 12-10, however Brockport managed seven shots on goal compared to New Paltz’s four. Boccard took the loss in goal posting four saves.
