The State University of New York at New Paltz will welcome author Judith Sloan to campus on Tuesday, Oct. 28, for a creative performance and panel discussion on immigration in America.
“Immigration and the Changing Face of America,” which takes place at 8 p.m. in Lecture Center 102, will examine the issue of immigration by looking at materials, which portray the experiences of documented and undocumented immigrants prior to, and following, Sept. 11.
The evening will begin with a performance by Sloan from the book she co-authored with Warren Lehrer, “Crossing the BLVD: Strangers, Neighbors, Aliens in a New America.” Immediately following the performance, Sloan will serve as moderator of a panel discussion titled “Immigration and the Changing Face of America.”
Panelists are Raluca Oncioiu, director of immigration services at Catholic Charities; Lee Bernstein, history professor at SUNY New Paltz; Margaret Wade-Lewis, black studies professor at SUNY New Paltz; and Marchelly Jodesty, a Haitian immigrant and SUNY New Paltz senior.
