Manhattanville field hockey beats New Paltz, 2-0

PURCHASE, NY-  The SUNY New Paltz field hockey team fell to host Manhattanville College 2-0 Wednesday evening.

Manhattanville struck in the 13th minute when Alyssa Coughlan found Maura Bruen off a corner to take the 1-0 lead that would hold until the half.

New Paltz out shot Manhattanville 7-6 in the first half.

Just 2:30 into the second half, Jen Ascencio took a shot ten feet from the cage and beat the Hawks goalkeeper to increase the lead to 2-0.

Despite out shooting Manhattanville 13-11, the Hawks just could not find the back of the cage.

Jessie Moore (Walden, NY/Pine Bush) led the team with six shots and two on goal.

Elizabeth Dini (Sayville, NY/Sayville) in 47:44 minutes of play made two saves and allowed to goals in the loss.  Grace Watson (Bayville, NY/Locust Valley) played the reminded of the 22:16 minutes and did not face any shots.  SUNY New Paltz falls to 1-9 overall and 0-5 in SUNYAC competition.

Lauren Gagnon made six saves in the win and improves Manhattanville to 5-5 overall.

SUNY New Paltz field hockey team returns to the field October 14th at 4 p.m. on the Vassar Campus.
