Women’s Volleyball Opens Season with Two Wins

The women’s volleyball team traveled to Cortland today to open their season in the Red Dragon Classic. The Hawks faced Buffalo State in their first match and swept the Bengals 3-0 (25-13, 25-21, 25-17). Senior Samantha Prudente led the attack with six kills on nine attempts and 10 digs. Junior Stephanie Bova handed out 18 assists.

New Paltz took on Nazareth in the second match and swept the Golden Flyers 3-0 (25-18, 25-23, 25-21). Bova dished out 24 assists and senior Nicole Mercandante contributed 21 digs. Junior Brittany Coyle added four blocks and classmate Alison Kiernan tallied four kills. First year Melinda DiGiovanna registered eight kills in the win.

The Hawks return to action on Saturday August 31st, against Montclair State at 12:00 pm.
