Becofsky Earns Chancellor’s Award for Student Excellence

NEW PALTZ, NY — Senior Katie Becofsky was one of six SUNY New Paltz students to be selected as a recipient of the 2008 Chancellor’s Award for Student Excellence. Becofsky was honored by SUNY and Chancellor Dr. John Clark at a ceremony on April 7th at the Empire State Plaza Convention Center. The Chancellor’s Award for Student Excellence was created to recognize students who have best demonstrated, and been recognized, for the integration of academic excellence with accomplishments in the areas of leadership, athletics, community service, creative and performing arts or career achievement.
Becofsky is a four year member of the women’s volleyball program where she has rewritten the recorded books as a setter. She has been recognized as a two-time SUNYAC East Player of the year and holds the school record for career and season assists. Becofsky spent the 2007-08 season as member of the women’s basketball team that finished fourth in SUNYAC. She will graduate in May with a degree in Psychology and Communication as carries a grade point average of 3.92.
