The women’s basketball team traveled to Plattsburgh tonight and defeated the Cardinals 52-48. The Hawks advance to 17-6 overall and 11-3 in SUNYAC. The win ties the record for most wins in a season with 17 and sets a new record for most conference wins.
Sophomore Abbey DeRossi posted a career high 12 points and seven rebounds to lead the Hawks. DeRossi was 4-6 from the floor and 3-5 from the line. Kristin Sitek finished with nine points, Kristen Caban added eight points and Artie Williams scored seven points and grabbed five boards.
New Paltz took a 14-3 lead at 10:23 and extended their lead to as many as 14 in the first half on a three pointer by DeRossi en route to the 27-19 intermission. In the second half, the Hawks were up 50-37 with 2:09 remaining before Plattsburgh closed out the game with an 11-2 run for the 52-48 final.
New Paltz will return to action on Saturday when they play Potsdam at 2:00 pm.
