Jackson’s 17 Kills Not Enough for New Paltz

NEW PALTZ, NY — The men’s volleyball team hosted New Haven tonight in their home opener and fell to the Chargers 3-1 (30-25, 30-28, 15-30, 30-26). Sophomore Alex Jackson led the Hawks with 17 kills and Ryan Huberty chipped in with 16 kills. Sophomore Stephen Pendleton handed out 39 assists and collected nine kills, while Pedro Medina collected 15 digs. Junior Mark Blair finished with eight kills and three service aces and senior Mike Schneider tallied three aces and four kills.
Game one was tied three times with the last coming at 24-24, before the Chargers used a 5-0 run on their way to the 30-25 final. The second game was the closest of the night with the game tied eight times, the last at 28-28 before New Haven tallied a kill and an ace to close out the game.
The Hawks took control in game three and cruised to a 30-15 win. Schneider collected two of his three aces in the third set as he served twelve times. The two teams played close to open the final game, the Hawks trailing by one at 26-25 but three Charger kills and a New Paltz error would end the game.
New Paltz will return to the court tomorrow night when they host Bard at 7:00 pm.
