Women’s Basketball Soars Past Buffalo State 82-44
NEW PALTZ, NY — The women’s basketball team hosted Buffalo State this afternoon and held the Bengals to 18 first half points en route to an 82-44 final. The Hawks advance to 10-3 on the season and 5-1 in SUNYAC play, while Buffalo State falls to 5-10 and 1-5 in conference.
The game was tied at nine with 15:10 remaining before the Hawks outscored the Bengals 23-2 over the next nine and half minutes to open up the game. The Hawks shot 53% from the floor, 43% from the arc and 65% from the line in addition to out rebounding Buffalo State 28-13 in the first stanza. For the game New Paltz scored 21 points off of the 20 Bengal turnovers.
Artie Williams led the Hawks with 14 points. Kristin Sitek scored eight of her 10 points in the first half on 5-6 from the floor and Kristen Caban netted 10 points. Sophomore Abbey DeRossi finished with a career high nine points and Sarah Salvo added seven points and seven boards. Carly Minehan had a balanced stat line finishing with seven points, six boards and four assists.
The Hawks will return to action on Tuesday January 22nd when they travel to Oneonta to take on the Red Dragons at 6:00 pm.
