Men’s Basketball Claims First SUNYAC Win

MORRISVILLE, NY — The men’s basketball team claimed their first SUNYAC win of the season with a 75-64 showing against Morrisville. The Hawks advanced to 5-6 overall and 1-3 in conference play.
In the first half, the Hawks shot 56% from the floor, 37% from the arc and were 3-5 from the line and led by as many as nine points at 25-16 with 9:03 to play, before settling for a 36-29 intermission lead.
In the second stanza, New Paltz led by 15 with 8:22 remaining in regulation before Morrisville pulled within four points at 63-59, but New Paltz countered with a 12-5 run for the final.
"We rebounded from last night’s sub-par-effort against Oswego and were able to win our first conference game on the road which is a great accomplishment for our team," stated New Paltz head coach Dagan Nelson.
Kyle Nelson finished with a game high 19 points on 9-10 from the field, grabbed seven rebounds and five steals. Junior Matt Hauser added 18 points, including making 10 of 12 free throw attempts and sophomore Lee Bertram chipped in with 17 points and six boards. Senior Brian Kuar scored seven of his nine points in the first half and classmate Jimmy Sugrue netted seven points.
New Paltz will return to action on Friday January 18th when they host Fredonia at 8:00 pm.
