Gardner and Lowenstein Pace Hawks at Kump Invite

TROY, NY — The men’s swim team traveled to RPI this afternoon for the Kump Invite and finished fourth out of seven teams with a total of 351 points. David Gardner and Zack Lowenstein each finished in top three twice. Gardner claimed the 50 free (22.63) and finished second in the 100 free (50.19) while Lowenstein won the 200 IM (2:04.05) and touched third in the 200 back (2:04.04). The duo teamed up with Patrick Rathbun and Billy Papetti for a fourth place finish in the 400 free relay (3:21.78).
Sophomore Stephen Cozzolongo posted a second place finish in the 200 back (2:00.93) and teamed with Rob Webb, Matt Demerest and Rathbun for a third place finish in the 400 medley relay (3:47.48). The Hawks had three other top five finishes including Webb who was third in the 200 IM (2:04.15), Rathbun finished third in the 50 free (22.69), and Papetti was fourth in the 100 free (51.07). Senior Johnny Fleckenstein touched sixth in the 200 breast (2:23.62) and Brian Bennett took seventh in the 200 free (1:54.46).
New Paltz returns to the pool on Wednesday January 16th when they host Stevens Tech at 4:30 pm in their final home meet.
