Swimming Sweeps Morrisville

NEW PALTZ, NY — The men’s and women’s swim teams hosted Morrisville this afternoon and swept the Mustangs. The women won a 95-63 decision, while the men claimed the 98-59 victory.
Chris Kinney was a double winner for the men by capturing the 100 free (55.22) and the 200 free (2:03.47). New Paltz had four other winners and three exhibition winners this afternoon. Jimmy Ireland won the 1000 free in 11:26.39, Rob Webb claimed the 50 free in 24.26, Stephen Cozzolongo took the 200 IM in 2:07.58 and Andrew Outcault won the 200 fly in 2:17.11. Other exhibition wins were posted by Zack Lowenstein in the 200 back in 2:06.56, Brian Bennett in the 500 free in 5:25.41 and Adam Leiner in the 200 breast in 2:39.55.
On the women’s side the Hawks had five different winners as Melinda Pullen won the 1000 free in 11:25.99, Jessica Lester captured the 200 free in 2:04.37, Christine Rieth touched first in the 50 free in 25.73, Tiffany Sorrell won the 200 IM in 2:22.34 and Erica Ellis took the 200 fly in 2:21.94. In addition, New Paltz had four exhibition wins as Samantha Graham won the 100 free in 57.53, Michelle Coombs finished the 200 back in 2:12.34, Joelle Hopf touched in 5:42.80 in the 500 free and Ellis completed the 200 breast in 2:36.17.
New Paltz women are 3-1 on the season and the men remain unbeaten at 3-0. The Hawks will host Coast Guard on Wednesday at 5:00 pm.
