Swimming Defeats Oneonta

ONEONTA, NY — The New Paltz men’s and women’s swim teams traveled to Oneonta this afternoon to face the Red Dragons. The women won 136-66 while the men won 117-79. The New Paltz women advances to 2-1 on the year and the men improve to 2-0 in dual-meets.
Senior Michelle Coombs was a double winner claiming the 50 and 100 free. First year Marissa Morris won the 500 and 1000 free.
The Hawks had four other winners and won exhibition winner. Allison Wells won the 200 free in 2:04.16, Erica Ellis claimed the 200 IM in 2:20.40, Liz Ruggerio touched first in the 200 fly 2:19.41 and Samantha Graham took the 200 back in 2:20.20. Junior Joelle Hopf was the exhibition winner in the 200 breast in 2:23.84.
On the men’s side Stefan Crain, Patrick Rathbun and David Gardner were each double winners. Crain won the 500 and 1000 free while Rathbun claimed the 50 free and 200 breaststroke. Gardner won the 200 free in 1:50.11 and the 100 free in 49.50. Other individual winners were Rob Webb in the 200 IM in 2:07.76 and John Fleckenstein captured the 200 fly in 2:18.79.
The Hawks return to action on Saturday afternoon when they host Morrisville at 1:00 pm.
