Hawks Stand Seventh in Commissioner’s Cup

The State University of New York Athletic Conference released the latest SUNYAC Commissioner’s Cup standings through the fall sports season. The Commissioner’s Cup champion is determined by the 20 different conference sports in the fall, winter and spring. An 11-point system is used in each sport. The first-place team gets 11 points, the second-place team gets 10 points and so on. A team’s regular-season finish will be added to their post-season finish and divided by two for their final total for that sport. The total number of points that a school accumulates is divided by the number of conference sports it has. This school total determines the overall winner at the end of the school year.

New Paltz, which finished the 2006-2007 school year in sixth place with a 6.13 average, currently stand in seventh with an average score of 6.54 points per sport through seven sports. The Hawks are .75 behind sixth place Fredonia. In the fall, New Paltz garnered 11 points for the women’s tennis team and 8.5 for SUNYAC semifinalists women’s volleyball. New Paltz scored 7.5 in field hockey, 6.75 in women’s soccer, five points each for men’s soccer and women’s cross country and two points for men’s cross country.
