Women’s Soccer Clinches Playoff Spot

OSWEGO, NY — Jennifer Anselmi scored in the second half for New Paltz and it was the only goal of the game as the Hawks defeated the Oswego State women’s soccer team 1-0 on Saturday afternoon at Laker Field in Oswego.

New Paltz clinched a SUNYAC playoff spot with the win and Fredonia’s 1-0 loss to Brockport. The Hawks are 5-3-3 in the conference and 7-6-4 overall. Oswego State finished SUNYAC play with a 4-6-1 conference record and is 5-10-1 overall.

Anselmi’s goal came on an excellent individual effort as she dribbled on the right wing, past an Oswego State defender and poked a low shot past the Laker goalkeeper.

Scoring chances were minimal on a windy day in Oswego, but New Paltz goalkeeper Sarah Boccard had two saves in the game while Oswego State goalkeeper Toby Klein made 11 saves in the contest. Each team had five corner kicks.

New Paltz earns the fifth seed in the SUNYAC Tournament and will travel to #4 Plattsburgh for the play-in round.
