Women’s Soccer Drops Season Opener

TROY, NY — The women’s soccer traveled to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute tonight for their season opener and fell to the Red Hawks 2-0. After battling through a scoreless first half, which saw Rensselaer hold a 5-2 advantage in shots, the Red Hawks finally got on the board in the second frame at 55:17 off a rebound lobb into the upper right corner of the goal. Rensselaer added an insurance goal at 87:35. First year Nora Wescott (Howard Beach, NY/St. Francis Prep), made eight stops in the New Paltz net. New Paltz was outshot 15-2 and only took two corner kicks compared to RPI’s nine. The Hawks face Union Sunday afternoon at 4:30.
