In the 54th minute of play Cortland’s Kayla Sweet took a shot that missed wide right by inches of the goal post. Five minutes later, Mandy Womelsdorf fired a shot for Cortland the deflected off the cross bar.
The two teams battled back and fourth in the rest of the game but neither could capitalize on an opportunity as both defensive units held strong. The Hawks held a slight 19-17 shot advantage and a 3-1 corner kick edge.
Junior Sarah Boccard (Washingtonville) posted the shutout in net for the Hawks, with seven saves, while Dayna Moneta made three saves in the first half for the Red Dragons and Megan Thayer made seven saves in 65 minutes.
