Costello Nets Game Winner

NEW PALTZ, NY — The field hockey team hosted Brockport this afternoon and claimed a 4-3 decision over the Golden Eagles. The Hawks last win against Brockport came in 2004.
Sophomore Kristen Donnelly (Nichols/Oswego Free Academy) put the Hawks on the board first at 10:47, with assists credited to AnnMarie Rudd (Garden City Park/New Hyde Park Memorial) and Caitlin Ryder (Hopewell Junction/John Jay). Brockport evened the game at one in the 25th minute when Allyson Granish passed a ball to Julie DeLellis who found the back of the cage for the Golden Eagles. In the 32nd minute first year Jess Moore (Walden/Pine Bush) tallied her first collegiate goal on a pass from Lauren Nicomini (Newton, NJ/Kittatinny Regional) for the 2-1 advantage at the end of the first stanza.
Brockport was quick to tie the game at 2-2 four minutes into the second half when Granish scored unassisted. The Golden Eagles took a 3-2 lead in the 47th minute with Amanda Pickard found the back of the cage on a pass from Lisa Wojdan. With 16 minutes left in regulation Nicomini sent a ball to Megan Flynn (Massapequa) who fired a shot past Brockport keeper Jen Allen. Junior Marissa Costello (Brick, NJ/Brick Township) scored the game winning goal for the Hawks at 62:39 on a pass from Ryder.
First year Elizabeth Dini (Sayville) posted 10 saves as the Hawks advance to 2-3 on the year and start their SUNYAC campaign 1-0. New Paltz returns to action on Wednesday September 19 when they host Oneonta at 4:00 pm.
