New Paltz Defeated by Tufts in NCAA First Round, 5-0
MEDFORD, MA — The SUNY New Paltz women’s tennis team traveled to Tufts University for the first round of the 2007 NCAA Division III Tournament today and where defeated by Jumbos, 5-0.
Tufts took care of the doubles matches in less than an hour. The top pair of senior tri-captains Jennifer Luten (Clayton, MO) and Kylyn Deary (Jackson, MI) won 8-1 against sophomore Dana Lim (New City, NY) and junior Eri Yamakawa (Eastchester, NY) for the Hawks. The Jumbos also earned 8-3 wins from both the #2 duo of Meghan McCooey (Cumberland, RI) and Andrea Cenko (St. Louis, MO), and the #3 pair of Mari Homma (Eastchester, NY) and Erica Miller (Boca Raton, FL).
Due to NCAA matches being played to decision, Tufts entered singles play needing two victories to wrap up the victory. They got those decisively as Homma earned a 6-2, 6-0 win at #6 against New Paltz first-year Kerri Serkes (Massapequa, NY). At the other end of the facility, Luten won on the first singles court against Lim, 6-0 and 6-2.
