Two Softball and Four Baseball Players Earn All-Conference

NEW PALTZ, NY — Two softball and four baseball players achieved all-conference recognition for their performance on the field.
Junior Lauren Motzkin (Woodstock, NY) and first year Dale Cornelius (Carle Place, NY) are the first softball players to be honored since 1998.
Motzkin was selected to the team as a catcher, while Cornelius was honored as a utility player for her work behind the plate and as a designated hitter. Motzkin batted an impressive .444 in conference play, including nine doubles and 15 RBI. Cornelius started all 20 conference games and batted .387 with 13 RBI. As a catcher she registered 31 putouts and five assists.
Junior outfielder Kevin Paino (Wappingers Falls, NY), and junior catcher Alex Cadmus (Wappingers Falls, NY) both received first team recognition for their efforts this year. Senior first baseman John DeKams (Kings Park, NY) and junior pitcher Zachary Potter (Pine Plains, NY) each garnered a position on the all-conference second team.
Paino started all 38 games in center field and batted .328 with 20 RBI. In SUNYAC play, he tallied 15 hits and a fielding percentage of .971. Cadmus hit .328 on the season with 26 RBI. In the conference he hit .353 with 14 RBI and .981 fielding percentage from behind the plate. DeKams finished first for the Hawks in hits (49), runs batted in (33), batting average (.398), and doubles (7). He also walked 30 times and carried a .561 on base percentage. In the conference, he hit .341 and fielded .990. Potter completed the season with a 6-3 record on the mound (2-1 in conference), while posting a 3.32 earned run average. He worked 76 innings and allowed 55 hits and struck out 59 batters. Potter led the conference with 29 strikeouts in SUNYAC play.
