Hawks Eliminated From SUNYACs by Knights
NEW PALTZ, NY — The SUNY New Paltz softball team was eliminated from the SUNYAC Tournament this afternoon by the Geneseo Knights, in a 16-6 decision.
Geneseo jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first and tacked on another run in the second. New Paltz tallied one run in the bottom of the second on a RBI single up the middle by senior Amy O’Brien. The Hawks evened the ball game in the third when Amalia DiTrapani knocked a two run RBI single through the left side. It was a scoreless fourth inning, before the Knights exploded for 13 runs over the next three innings.
Lauren Motzkin, Melyssa Cilmi, DiTrapani and Gina Marano each registered two hits for the Hawks.
Kelly O’Hea started the game and pitched the first two innings, allowing three runs before Michelle Reinke came in on relief. Reinke took the loss on the mound, allowing 13 runs on 17 hits, while striking out three batters in four and one-thirds innings.
New Paltz completes their season with an overall record of 17-21.
